Hello and welcome to the GTHL Blog! My name is Roman Puriy. I’m the creator and co-owner of GTHL Apparel. Our goal with the GTHL Blog is to destroy the stigma of being limited to a certain type of environment and most importantly, show newly diagnosed type one diabetics that it’s not an end or a limitation. The reason I started GTHL was because I want to help people that are going through the same struggles that I am going through especially at the beginning of the diagnosis.
A little about my background: I moved to the United States at the age of eleven. I was born and raised in western Ukraine. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes when I was three years old. As a kid, I spent a lot of time in and out of hospitals. In 2018, I visited my home country(Ukraine) for the first time in five years. On the last night there, I was hospitalized. All the memories came back, being at the same position many years later. Going through the learning curves of T1D is definitely a challenge for every newly diagnosed diabetic. This is why when I created GTHL, it made me realize that this platform has the potential to make a difference in changing how people think of T1D, and support non-profit organizations that are in the process of making a positive impact.
The reason why I got the idea of starting my own clothing brand such as GTHL was because of three main reasons. First, I enjoy working out. Second, I love comfortable clothes. Athletic apparel provides great comfort, looks great and works for 60-80 percent of the activities that average person does. Third, I couldn’t relate to a lot of athletic brands. Nike, Adidas, and Under Armor are all very common and comfortable however, I didn’t relate with larger companies.
We strive to create an apparel that is comfortable, versatile, and has a meaning and cause behind it.
Let’s make this blog different. Let’s create a community.
